Avry Gordon 13 Year Old - Signed for Charlton Athletic

At just 13 years old, Avry Gordon has signed for Charlton Athletic, marking a major milestone in a journey filled with talent, grit, and relentless determination. Known for his sharp goal-scoring instincts and mature composure on the pitch, Avry’s rise is a story of perseverance through injury, rejection, and adversity.

From as early as he can remember, football has been a constant in Avry’s life. “I’ve had a passion for the game since I was born,” he says. That passion was evident from the start—at just four years old, he was already playing in an Under-6s team, competing against players two years older for two seasons. By age eight, his raw talent was spotted by Brighton & Hove Albion, who brought him in for sessions. But heartbreak came early, when Avry broke his ankle just after his first session. The injury forced him to step back from academy football and return to grassroots, where he quietly began to rebuild.

Then came the Covid-19 pandemic, which halted all football activity. Avry, undeterred, continued working on his fitness and skill at home. But just as football returned, he suffered a serious injury—breaking both his leg and anklewhile playing at school. He was out for three months. “That was the toughest period,” he admits. “But I just kept thinking about getting back and proving myself again.”

And that’s exactly what he did. After recovery, Avry joined a new team and hit the ground running—scoring 40 goals in just half a season. He added another 30 goals for his Saturday side, and soon enough, professional interest returned. He was invited to showcases with Crystal Palace, and although it didn’t lead to a contract, the experience only fuelled his hunger.

This season, Avry’s form has reached new heights. Playing for his Sunday side in Crawley, he’s already bagged around 50 goals, and another 20 for his other teams. That consistency led to a defining moment—attending UK Football Trials.

“When UK Football Trials told me I had been scouted, it was an amazing feeling,” he says. Avry didn’t just catch one scout’s eye—he impressed multiple clubsTottenham invited him to a showcase and offered a six-week pre-trial. QPRWest HamLuton, and Charlton Athletic all came calling. Charlton offered him the biggest opportunity: an eight-week full academy trial.

Avry took that chance with both hands—and now, he’s officially signed with Charlton Athletic.

“It’s a dream come true,” he says. “When the coach told me I was being signed, I couldn’t believe it. I worked so hard every session, stayed focused, and gave everything.”

He credits UK Football Trials for playing a pivotal role. “The trial taught me how to play with calmness under pressure. I learned to stay composed and just be myself on the pitch,” Avry says. “I’d 100% recommend UK Football Trials. It gives players the platform to show what they can do in front of real scouts.”

His mum played a key part in the journey too. “She encouraged me to go to UK Football Trials. She knew how much I loved the game and wanted me to have a proper chance. I’m so glad I listened.”

As he begins this next exciting chapter at Charlton, Avry remains focused and humble. “This is just the beginning,” he says. “I want to keep learning, keep scoring, and keep pushing myself every day.”

With a record like his and a mindset to match, Avry Gordon is one to watch for the future.
