Owen Rich – Age 13 – Scouted by Manchester United 

At just 13 years old, Owen Rich is already turning heads in the world of football. Based in Toronto, Canada, Owen is a left winger for FC Durham Academy, competing in the Ontario Player Development League. Known for his pace, skill, and determination, Owen is the kind of player who trains relentlessly to keep improving his game. 

Owen’s commitment to personal development and hunger for new challenges led him to the UK, where he attended a UK Football Trials event to test himself against top-level players and gain exposure to professional clubs. 

The trip proved to be a major milestone in Owen’s football journey. 

During the trial, his performance stood out, and he was scouted by Manchester United, one of the biggest and most respected clubs in world football. “When we were told by UK Football Trials that a scout from Manchester United had shown interest, we were thrilled,” his family shared. “We immediately reached out to the contact they passed on and are now waiting to hear back from the club.” 

To even attract interest from a club of Manchester United’s calibre is a remarkable achievement for any young player—especially at just 13 years old. It shows not only Owen’s technical ability but also his composure and intelligence on the pitch. 

Looking back on the trial, Owen reflected on the key lessons he took away from the experience. “You have to play fast and always think ahead,” he said. “Knowing what you’re going to do before the ball comes to you makes all the difference at this level.” 

Owen especially enjoyed the competitive match play during the event. “The scrimmages at the end were my favourite part,” he said. “I felt like I could really show what I can do in a live game setting.” 

His decision to attend UK Football Trials was driven by his ambition. “Owen is always looking to challenge himself,” his parents explained. “UK Football Trials offered the opportunity to experience a high level of football in the UK and to be seen by professional scouts—that’s exactly the kind of challenge he was looking for.” 

When asked if he would recommend the experience to other young players, Owen didn’t hesitate. “It was so much fun, and the confidence I gained from it was worth everything. Whether you get scouted or not, you leave a better player.” 

Back in Canada, Owen continues to train hard and develop his game with FC Durham Academy while awaiting next steps from Manchester United. Whatever the outcome, he’s already achieved something many players only dream of—being noticed by a Premier League club.
