When Luis attended UK Football Trials, he was determined to stand out. His performances on the day earned him interest from Coton Green, who wasted no time in reaching out. “When I was told I’d been scouted, I waited patiently for Coton Green to reach out,” he explained. “They were genuinely eager to bring me in.” That eagerness gave Luis confidence, but he knew the hard work was only beginning. 

For his first session with the club, Luis left nothing to chance. “I came in fully prepared, no pre-season break like most,” he said. “I’d been running 10ks and had pushed my speed beyond what I showed at the UK Football Trial. I was nervous at first, but I leaned on God for strength, stayed focused, and gave everything. I expressed myself with confidence and ended up being one of the fittest and fastest players on the pitch.” 

Preparation wasn’t just physical, but also mental. Luis credits his mindset for helping him stand out during sessions. “I’ve learned how important it is to truly believe in yourself,” he explained. “It’s something people hear all the time, but it makes a real difference. Being vocal, energetic, and fully involved, especially in the attack, shows coaches that you’re present and ready to make an impact. It’s those little things that make you stand out.” 

That belief quickly translated into impact on the pitch. “In the first 3–4 minutes of the match, I scored and assisted the only goals of the session,” Luis recalled proudly. “But I didn’t stop there, I kept driving forward, creating chances for my teammates, and stayed calm, confident, and vocal the entire time. I made sure my presence was felt from start to finish.” 

For Luis, the decision to attend UK Football Trials was about testing himself at a higher level. “Sometimes in life, you’ve got to take a leap,” he said. “I realised my performances at previous clubs were already at a high standard and being honest with myself, I knew it was time to test what level I was really at. I didn’t let a single winger score against me the entire season, not just in my team, but across the whole league. So deep down, I knew I was ready for more.” 

His consistency and attitude are now paying off at Coton Green. “I’m currently still training with them and staying consistent,” he explained. “I’ve been told I’m doing well, so I’m hopeful the opportunity to sign will come soon. All I can do is keep showing up, working hard, and letting my performances speak for themselves.” 

Luis is also quick to recommend UK Football Trials to others who are serious about testing themselves in front of scouts. “Yes, I would,” he said. “It’s a great learning experience.” 

From long-distance runs in preparation to making an immediate impact on the pitch, Luis has embraced every part of the process. His journey is a reminder that success in football isn’t just about talent — it’s about discipline, self-belief, and taking every chance with both hands.
