Denis – 12 Years Old – Scouted by Stevenage FC

Denis’s football journey began at the age of six, and since then, he has worked hard to improve in every aspect of his game. Competing in both the Junior Premier League (JPL) and the Harrow League, he has faced a wide range of opposition, gaining valuable match experience in different environments. These opportunities have helped him to grow not just technically, but also mentally, learning to adapt to high-pressure moments and finding consistency in his performances.
In defence, Denis prides himself on the details of his game. “My skills include smart positioning, precise tackling, tight marking, intercepting passes, and anticipating opponents’ movements,” he explained. Just as importantly, Denis recognises the value of communication, always making sure his voice is heard on the pitch as he helps to organise the back line and keep his team structured. He describes himself as a player with “good physical endurance, the ability to quickly restart play, and the confidence to make quick decisions under pressure.”
That maturity and awareness stood out during his UK Football Trials appearance, where scouts recognised his ability to read the game and influence those around him. Soon after, Denis received an invitation from Stevenage FC to attend a four-week trial in August 2025. He grasped the opportunity with determination and commitment, giving his all in every training session and match.
“I completed the four-week trial period and was invited again last week,” Denis shared. “I am currently awaiting their response.” The fact that the club asked him to return for another look shows that his performances left a strong impression.
Reflecting on his UK Football Trials experience, Denis said: “From my UK football trial, I learned a lot about my strengths and areas for improvement as a player. I gained valuable experience competing at a high level, which helped me understand the pace, physicality, and tactical awareness required to perform in a professional environment. I also learned the importance of resilience and focus, as every session tested my ability to stay sharp and adapt quickly.”
He added that the event was a motivating factor in his development: “Overall, it was an eye-opening experience that motivated me to work harder and continue developing my skills.”
When asked why he decided to attend UK Football Trials in the first place, Denis explained: “I wanted to attend the trials to showcase my abilities and explore opportunities to play football at a professional level in the UK.” That decision is already paying off, with Stevenage taking a serious look at him and his potential.
Would he recommend UK Football Trials to others? “Yes, I would recommend UK Football Trials to other players. The trial provides a professional environment, good coaching, and the opportunity to be seen by scouts. It’s a great way to gain experience, improve skills, and potentially get noticed by a club.”
For now, Denis is awaiting final feedback from Stevenage, but his performances have already marked him out as a player with huge potential. At just 12 years old, he is showing all the right qualities — focus, composure, and resilience — to keep climbing. With Stevenage keeping close tabs on him, the future looks bright for this young defender.
