Kai – 13 Years Old – Scouted by Luton Town & Norwich City
Kai describes himself simply but effectively: “I’m a goalkeeper for Easton AFC. This is my 4th season playing.” Those years have been vital in his development, providing him with regular match experience, building his confidence, and allowing him to refine the attributes that scouts look for in a modern goalkeeper — focus, agility, distribution, and communication.
The turning point came when Kai attended UK Football Trials. After impressing in front of the watching scouts, he was contacted by two professional clubs: Norwich City and Luton Town. “We replied to both Luton and Norwich,” Kai explained, “but Norwich didn’t get back in contact with us.” Luton, however, were quick to act and invited him into their system, where he is currently on an eight-week trial.
For any young player, stepping into a professional academy environment is a big moment, and Kai has embraced the challenge with maturity. Now into his second week of the trial, he is soaking up every opportunity to train, learn, and show his qualities against elite players. “I’ve just finished my 2nd week and I haven’t been given any feedback yet,” he said, fully aware that patience and perseverance are vital at this stage of the process.
Reflecting on what he has learned from the UK Football Trials event, Kai said: “That there is hope if you work hard.” It is a powerful reminder that commitment and effort can open doors, even when the journey feels uncertain.
One of his proudest moments during the experience came when he received his trial grade cards, scoring consistently well across the board. “Being given my grade cards and having all As and Bs” was a real highlight, showing that his performances matched the standards scouts and coaches were looking for.
Kai also credits the support of his family, particularly his mum, for encouraging him to take the opportunity and put himself forward. Without that push, he admits, he might not have had the belief to test himself on such a big stage.
Looking back, he admits he never expected to be in this position. “Yes. I never thought that I would be scouted, so you have more of a chance at the UK football trials.” His recommendation to other young players is clear — if you want to be seen and showcase your abilities, UK Football Trials provides a genuine platform to do so.
With six weeks still remaining of his Luton Town trial, Kai is focused and motivated to keep giving his best every session. Regardless of the outcome, he has already proven to himself that he can compete at a higher level. The journey is only just beginning for this promising young goalkeeper, and his story serves as inspiration to any player willing to take the chance and put themselves in front of scouts.
