At just 12 years old, Kirubel has achieved what thousands of young players dream of – earning a place at a professional academy. After being scouted by Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Millwall, Kirubel has now officially signed for Millwall F.C.

A dynamic and versatile player capable of operating at left-back, left-wing or up front, Kirubel has been developing his game at Samuel Montagu F.C. for the past four years. His commitment to improving has been unquestionable – attending six UK Football Trials events, returning each time sharper, stronger, and more confident.

“I first started my football journey at Samuel Montagu and have stayed there up until now,” he said. “Going to six different UKFT events helped me get seen. I was scouted by Ipswich, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Millwall.”

When Kirubel was first notified that he’d been scouted, the excitement was immediate. What followed was the waiting period familiar to many young players as clubs assess next steps.

“It was all about waiting for the scout to email me about what comes next.”

Interest from multiple clubs quickly followed. Ipswich Town initially invited him in but later couldn’t progress due to catchment restrictions. West Ham United began monitoring him closely, with their scout arranging to watch one of his upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace and Millwall expressed strong interest, with Millwall eventually inviting Kirubel in for further assessment.

Throughout this journey, one moment stood out above the rest.

“The best moment was when the Chelsea scout approached me after the trial and said he liked the way I played. That gave me so much confidence.”

Kirubel’s experience at UK Football Trials helped him develop on and off the pitch.

“I learned that patience and hard work are the key to success,” he explained. “It’s not always instant. You need to stay focused and keep going.”

It was his father who first discovered UK Football Trials online and booked him his first session. Six events later, Kirubel’s perseverance has led to something extraordinary.

When asked whether he’d recommend UKFT to other players, Kirubel didn’t hesitate:

“Definitely. I would recommend UKFT to anyone because it’s a great opportunity to be scouted and to improve your football career.”

And now, after months of dedication, assessment, and consistency, the moment every young footballer dreams of has arrived.

Kirubel is officially a Millwall F.C. player.

His father shared the news proudly:

“I am proud to share that my son has officially signed for Millwall FC. I would like to thank the entire UK Football Trials team and management for creating this amazing opportunity for him. Your support and guidance have meant so much to us. Thank you!”

Kirubel now joins one of the most respected academies in the country, becoming the latest example of what can happen when talent, opportunity, and hard work come together.
