Ashton – 10 Years Old – Goalkeeper | Scouted by Chelsea FC

At just 10 years old, Ashton is already taking exciting steps in his football journey, earning the opportunity to trial with one of the biggest academies in the country. A goalkeeper with a growing reputation for confidence and coachability, Ashton has been scouted by Chelsea FC after impressing at a UK Football Trials event.

Ashton’s football journey began only four years ago, when he first started playing for his local team. Despite being relatively new to the game compared to many young players, his progress has been rapid. His early development saw him successfully trial for Lambeth Tigers, where he has now been playing consistently for the past two years, building strong foundations in his goalkeeping and match understanding.

Alongside his grassroots football, Ashton has been committed to improving his game through 1-to-1 goalkeeper training. These sessions focused on technical development, confidence, and understanding his role within the game. It was through this additional work that his coach suggested he attend a UK Football Trials event, believing Ashton was ready to test himself in front of professional scouts.

That decision proved to be an important one. During the trial, Ashton impressed enough to catch the attention of a Chelsea scout, who took the time to speak directly with his family after the session. “The scout called my dad and explained what he liked, players he has scouted before, where they have gone, and what happens next,” Ashton explained. For a young player and his family, this conversation was a clear sign that something special could be developing.

One moment from the day stood out above all others. “Seeing the scout talking to my dad at the end of the trial,” Ashton said, describing it as the best moment of the experience. It was a powerful confirmation that his performance had been noticed.

Reflecting on what he learned from the trial, Ashton highlighted both technical and mental growth. “I learned new techniques from the goalkeeping coach and gained confidence playing in front of scouts,” he said. For a goalkeeper of his age, learning to perform with confidence under observation is a vital step in development.

Ashton now has an eight-week trial with Chelsea FC, set to begin at the start of February. The trial will take place weekly at Chelsea’s training ground, where he will be assessed across the period before receiving feedback on whether he has been successful. It’s a huge opportunity and one that reflects both his potential and the work he has put in so far.

When asked if he would recommend UK Football Trials to other players, Ashton was clear: “Yes! You never know what scouts are looking for, so it’s a really good opportunity to play in front of them. It was good to have another training session and just try my best.”

For a player who only started football four years ago, Ashton’s journey is a brilliant example of how commitment, extra work, and the right opportunities can open doors. With his Chelsea trial just around the corner, he now looks forward to the next chapter with confidence and excitement.
