Euan – 16 Years Old – Winger | Signed for Altrincham 

At 16 years old, Euan has taken an important step forward in his football journey by earning a place at Altrincham, proving that persistence and stepping outside your comfort zone can open real doors. 

Euan’s background is built firmly in grassroots football. 

He played for his local team from the age of five through to fifteen, developing his game season after season without ever having scouting opportunities. Like many young players, he had the ability — but not the exposure. 

That changed when he decided to attend a UK Football Trials event. 

“I saw it online and thought it was definitely a good way to get myself seen and gain further experience,” he explained. 

Following the event, Euan received an email from Altrincham requesting basic information and inviting him to attend training sessions. What followed was a competitive but professional trial process. 

“I went to three training sessions with the rest of the team. Some players were also there on trial,” he said. 

After the third week, the club made their decision. 

“I was asked to sign after week three,” Euan explained. “Some players were there for six weeks and were not asked back.” 

The process taught him valuable lessons beyond just technical footballing skills. 

“I learned to work out of my comfort zone with players I did not normally play with,” he said. “And to think about the tasks and drills we were asked to do. The scouts are looking at things like space and movement — when most people thought the drill was about the player on the ball, not the player waiting to receive it.” 

That tactical awareness and understanding of off-the-ball movement helped him stand out. 

For Euan, the overall trial experience was positive and enjoyable. 

“The trial was fun and I really enjoyed working with different coaches and learning from them.” 

When asked whether he would recommend UK Football Trials to other players, his answer was straightforward: 

“It’s a great way to get yourself out there in a fun way.” 

Now signed with Altrincham, Euan has shown that grassroots players can absolutely progress when given the right platform. From never having scouting opportunities to earning a contract within three weeks, his story is proof that exposure combined with preparation can change a player’s pathway. 

His journey highlights something important — sometimes all you need is the chance to be seen.
