At 19 years old, Shea’s journey has taken another powerful turn. 

After attending UK Football Trials and earning interest from multiple clubs — including Sheffield Wednesday and several non-league sides — Shea has now secured a two-year professional deal with Derry City. 

The update comes from a scout who first identified him nearly nine months ago. 

“That keeper I scouted nine months ago has just signed a two-year deal for Derry City. I didn’t manage to get him, but I’ve kept in touch,” said Brian Lee. 

That statement alone speaks volumes. Even though the scout was unable to bring Shea to his own club, the fact he stayed in contact highlights the impression Shea made — not just as a goalkeeper, but as a professional. 

Since his previous trial opportunities, Shea has continued doing exactly what he said he would: staying ready, staying visible, and refusing to let setbacks define him. His earlier reflections now feel even more significant. 

“To be yourself and don’t let the pressure of any scouts affect your performance.” 

That mindset has clearly paid off.
