Marvellous – 16 Years Old – Signed Scholarship with Bromley FC 

Marvellous’ journey shows how one opportunity can open the door to the next when a player continues to work hard and stay patient. 

After attending a UK Football Trials event at Cray Wanderers in South London, Marvellous impressed scouts enough to earn an opportunity with Stevenage FC. It was a moment that confirmed his ability was being recognised at a higher level and gave him the platform to step into a professional academy environment. 

Following the trial event, Marvellous spent eight weeks on trial with Stevenage, training alongside academy players and experiencing the standards required at a professional club. Trials at that level are demanding, and every session provides an opportunity for players to show not only their technical ability but also their attitude, work ethic, and willingness to learn. 

Although he ultimately did not secure a place at Stevenage, the impression he made there proved incredibly valuable. The academy staff recognised his potential and believed he deserved another opportunity within the professional game. 

Stevenage scout Ross Adkin, who initially spotted him at the UK Football Trials event, explained what happened next: 

“Marvellous Ojo, who I scouted at your Cray Wanderers trial last year, signed a scholarship with Bromley. He initially trialled for eight weeks with us and didn’t quite make it, but we recommended him to Bromley, who trialled him and have now scholarised him.” 

That recommendation proved to be the turning point. 

After being put forward to Bromley FC, Marvellous attended a trial period with the club. This time, his performances were enough to secure a scholarship contract, marking a major step forward in his football journey. 

Signing a scholarship represents a significant milestone for any young player. It places them within a professional club’s development pathway, providing structured coaching, competitive fixtures, and the opportunity to continue progressing within the game. 

Marvellous’ story is also a great example of how football pathways rarely follow a straight line. Even when one opportunity doesn’t immediately result in a contract, the relationships built and impressions made along the way can lead to new doors opening.

to an eight-week trial with Stevenage, 

to earning a scholarship with Bromley FC —
