Ousman – Success Story Update 

From UK Football Trials to a Full Scholarship with Rotherham United 

At just 13 years old, Ousman was already showing the kind of promise that had begun to catch the attention of professional scouts — and his football journey has since taken another exciting step forward. 

The dynamic winger, known for his explosive pace and ability to take on defenders, first developed his love for football at the age of seven while playing Sunday league football. As his ability quickly became clear, he progressed into the more competitive environment of Junior Premier League (JPL) football, where his speed, direct running, and creativity began to stand out. 

During this period, Ousman was first noticed by professional clubs, with Leeds United and Rotherham United both showing interest in his performances. Leeds invited him in for a trial, providing valuable experience at academy level. Although that particular opportunity didn’t lead to a signing, it only strengthened his determination to continue improving. 

Looking for another opportunity to showcase his ability in front of professional scouts, Ousman returned to UK Football Trials — a decision that would prove to be an important one. 

Having already experienced the environment before, he arrived with confidence and a clear focus. Across the sessions, Ousman impressed with his energy, attacking intent, and sharp decision-making. His pace down the wing and ability to influence games caught the attention of several scouts in attendance. 

By the end of the event, four clubs had expressed interest in him, including Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, and Bradford City. 

“The best part of the trial was the end matches,” Ousman explained. “That’s where I really got to show what I can do and express myself with the ball.” 

The full-match games are often the moment where players can truly demonstrate their strengths, and for Ousman it provided the perfect platform to stand out. 

The experience also helped him better understand what scouts are looking for at academy level. 

“I learned that you have to give your best all the time, because you never know who’s watching,” he said. 

Following the event, Ousman received further contact regarding next steps — and one club in particular continued to monitor his progress closely. 

After impressing during further assessments, Rotherham United invited Ousman into their academy setup, initially offering him a trial to evaluate his development within the club’s environment. 

Ousman made an immediate impression. 

His pace, discipline, work ethic and confidence in one-versus-one situations quickly stood out to the coaching staff, and after continuing to perform strongly within the programme, Rotherham United have now offered Ousman a full academy scholarship. 

The scholarship marks a major milestone in his football journey and reflects the belief the club has in his long-term potential. 

From attending UK Football Trials determined to be noticed… 

to attracting interest from multiple professional clubs… 

to now securing a full scholarship with Rotherham United —
