Darryl – 12 Years Old – Midfielder/Winger | Scouted by Hull City & Derby County 

At just 12 years old, Darryl is already showing the kind of resilience and belief that sets young players apart. After impressing at UK Football Trials, he has earned opportunities with Hull City and Derby County, and is currently on trial with Hull — where he is making a strong impact. 

Darryl’s football journey hasn’t been straightforward. 

“I started when I was nine at a reserve team,” he explained, before moving to Chapeltown, where he spent two years developing his game. His progress led to an opportunity with Leeds United, where he was scouted and later joined a development setup. Although that pathway didn’t result in a signing, it became a key learning experience. 

Rather than letting setbacks hold him back, Darryl stayed focused. 

“I went to UK Football Trials and played as best as I could,” he said. 

That decision proved to be a turning point. 

At the UK Football Trials event, Darryl showcased his versatility — capable of playing as a right winger, central midfielder, or left-back — and impressed scouts with his confidence, energy, and technical ability. His performances caught the attention of Hull City and Derby County, both of whom expressed interest. 

Hull City moved quickly. 

“I got contacted by Hull City and I am now on trial,” Darryl explained. “It’s going really well.” 

Since joining the trial environment, Darryl has continued to stand out. In fact, he made an immediate impression during match play. 

“The best moment for me was the match at UK Football Trials and then getting Man of the Match in my first game at Hull City,” he said. 

That recognition reflects not only his ability, but also his confidence to perform under pressure — something he has developed through his journey so far. 

Darryl’s mindset is clear and mature for his age. 

“That eventually your chance will come,” he said, reflecting on what he has learned through his experiences. 

Currently, he feels confident in his performances. 

“I would consider myself one of the best in my age group and the age group above,” he said — a level of belief that is often needed to succeed in competitive academy environments. 

Darryl first discovered UK Football Trials through social media. 

“I saw it on TikTok and how many people got scouted,” he explained — and he has now become one of those players himself. 

When asked if he would recommend the experience to others, his answer was straightforward: 

“I would, as it brings a lot of scouting opportunities and development.” 

Now on trial with Hull City and pushing towards a potential signing, Darryl’s journey is a strong example of persistence paying off. From early setbacks to standout performances, he has continued to put himself in the right environments — and is now closer than ever to taking the next step. 

At just 12 years old, his journey is only just beginning — but he is already proving that with belief, hard work, and the right opportunity, progress is always possible.
