Dejon – 13 Years Old – Winger/Defender | Scouted by Luton Town & Woking
At 13 years old, Dejon is showing exactly the kind of resilience and mindset needed to keep progressing in football. After attending multiple UK Football Trials events, he has continued to develop his game and attract attention from professional clubs.
Dejon’s journey has already included time at a professional academy, having been part of Luton Town’s academy from U9 to U12. After being released, he faced a setback that many young players experience — but instead of stepping away, he made the decision to keep pushing forward.
“I have continued working on my development,” he explained.
That attitude has defined his progress since.
Dejon has attended five UK Football Trials events, using each one as an opportunity to improve, gain experience, and build confidence in front of scouts.
Over time, his performances have not gone unnoticed.
He was contacted by both Luton Town and Woking, with both clubs showing interest following his displays. While Woking were unable to proceed due to distance, Luton have remained in contact as they continue to monitor his development.
More importantly, the feedback he has received has played a big role in his growth.
“Even if I haven’t been contacted by a club, some scouts have said I’ve done really well, which has really helped my confidence.”
For Dejon, that recognition has been a key moment in his journey.
“Being told by scouts that I impressed them.”
It reinforced his belief and gave him the motivation to keep going — something he now sees as one of the biggest lessons from his experience.
“To keep going.”
That persistence is already starting to open more doors.
Dejon is now attending a Chelsea Development Centre, where he continues to train and develop at a high level. In addition, scouts are regularly attending his matches, providing ongoing exposure and opportunities to progress further.
Reflecting on UK Football Trials, Dejon highlighted the importance of being tested in unfamiliar environments.
“It puts you in an uncomfortable situation playing with players you don’t know, which really helps — especially when going to trials or development centres.”
That ability to adapt is crucial at academy level, and it’s something Dejon has clearly embraced.
When asked if he would recommend the experience, his answer was clear:
“Yes.”
