Fred – 14 Years Old – Central Midfielder | Signs with Flint Town FC

At 14 years old, Fred is a central midfielder who has just been told there is a place for him at Flint Town FC next season. It is the outcome of a journey that started at a grassroots club at the age of seven — and one that his performances at UK Football Trials played a direct role in making happen.

Fred's development has followed a clear upward line. He joined his first grassroots club at seven, then caught the attention of Leeds United's development centre at 11, where he trained for two seasons. From there he moved to Macclesfield at 13 and then Leek Town at 14, while also representing Sale Grammar School in the first team. Working across different clubs and environments over those years has shaped him as a player who understands what is required at each level.

He attended UK Football Trials' event in Bury looking to add competitive exposure and put himself in front of scouts. The experience was a positive one from the start.

"Overall very positive and important for me, as I was able to play in front of scouts."

The coaching throughout the day was high-level, and Fred was honest about how it felt to perform in that environment.

"I was nervous but excited, as I had the opportunity to do so."

What he took from it was something he could carry into every trial that followed.

"I felt like I was able to handle pressure more and felt more confident for further trials."

The standout moment from the day came during the match, when Fred looked around and noticed a scout watching him directly.

"Looking around and having a scout watching me."

Flint Town FC made contact after the event. Fred began attending training sessions, performed consistently well, and was eventually called in to speak with the academy manager about what the club could offer and what they were working towards. After continued training and assessment by the new head coach, the decision was made.

"I was given the feedback that there was one hundred per cent a place for me next season."

When asked what he would say to other players considering UK Football Trials, Fred spoke from his own experience:

"It is a great opportunity to showcase your ability and gain the experience of playing in front of scouts demanding high performance. I would recommend trying to play to your strengths, relax, and as long as you have worked hard, it will show."

From his first grassroots club at seven, through Leeds, Macclesfield, and Leek Town, to a confirmed place at Flint Town FC — Fred's journey reflects what steady work and the right opportunities can produce. He came to UK Football Trials looking to be seen. He leaves with a club.
