Matty, 11, was approached by two clubs after he displayed pace, a great engine, vision and awareness at the trial in Manchester, all fundamental assets to a left back. He plays for three teams, including his school, Stork FC and AC Wirral.

He trains and plays three times a week with his school side and two local teams, as well as practising several times alone in his garden before and after school, putting himself through sprints and building fitness.

His parents were impressed with the UKFT trial...Parent, Mike Okeefe: "We thought the whole setup was very professional, it was fantastic from the way we were treated and how they spoke to us, we were made to feel really welcome. I couldn’t tell you how much Matty enjoyed it. He went away from the trial beaming, the call from Accrington was just the icing on the cake."
