"Callum has all the qualities you want from a centre-back" says Head of Recruitment
Callum Wells, 15, has been in on trial with the resurgent Rotherham United Football Club after he was scouted at our football trial in Leeds this year. Callum is one of two players taken by the Head of Recruitment that day in February and he has impressed in his time with the club so far.
Callum played the full 90 minutes for the club's u16's against Chesterfield last weekend and is set to feature again in the coming weeks.
When asked about the centre back's performance in the academy so far, Head of Recriutment Richard Hairyes, said: "Callum has done well, he hasn't looked out of place. We've had a few centre-back's in on trial and it's now down to Callum and one other, so he's certainly beaten off a lot of competition."
Richard added: "He's a good size, is good coming into midfield and displayed pace and athleticism, all qualities you want from a centre-back."
The former Middlesborough trainee, who stands at 6ft 2' and weighs 10 stone, has also been offered the chance to sign with a club in the Evostick League next season, but is waiting to see what happens with Rotherham.
"I really enjoyed the Rotherham trial," said Callum, "It was a great experience for me and a good standard to play. I saw UK Football Trials online and just thought, 'Why not?'. I gave it a shot and I'm really happy I did it.
"It puts you in the shop window and gives you an opportunity to get scouted."
Rotherham have had an amazing end to the season since appointing Neil Warnock as manager, including a club-record 11 game unbeaten run which took them out of the relegation zone and secured their Championship status for next season.
