How to Improve at Football from Home
“Improving at football starts with consistency,” says Anthony. “Even 30 minutes a day can make a big difference over time.”
Whether you’re in the garden, on the driveway or in your living room, here are Anthony’s expert-approved ways to boost your game from home:
1. Master Ball Control
Good ball control is the foundation of every great player. “You don’t need a big space. Just set out some cones or even use bottles and dribble around them,” Anthony advises. “Working in tight spaces helps develop your close control and touch, which are vital in competitive matches.”
2. Sharpen Your Footwork and Agility
Quick feet can give you a serious advantage. “Ladder drills, hopping exercises, or anything that makes your feet move quickly and efficiently — that’s what builds match fitness and explosiveness,” Anthony explains.
3. Practice Passing and Shooting
A simple wall or rebounder can become your best training partner. “Use both feet when practising passes and shots. It builds balance and confidence. You’ll be more unpredictable and effective during games,” he says.
4. Build Your Football Fitness
Many players forget the importance of fitness when training alone. “Core strength, balance and cardio make a massive difference,” says Anthony. “You recover quicker, reduce the risk of injury, and you can last longer in high-pressure situations.”
Keep It Simple – and Consistent
Anthony stresses that progress comes from daily habits. “You don’t need to train for hours. Just be consistent. The players who put in 30 focused minutes each day are the ones who stand out when it matters.”
Whether you’re preparing for a trial or just want to stay sharp between matches, training at home can give you the edge. At UK Football Trials, we encourage players to take ownership of their development — because every step taken at home adds up to performance on the pitch.
