'Big Ben' Kalambay Hits Headlines and Bags a Brace for Cheltenham Town Reserves
UK Football Trials' Striker Ben Kalambay has made the headlines in Cheltenham this week after scoring two goals on trial with Cheltenham Town Reserves.
The 22-year-old Belgian target man, who towers over opposing defenders at well over six-foot, attended our footbal trial in West London last Friday, 1st September and only 4 days later was playing in a reserve team game against Newport County, which they won 7-1.
Cheltenham Town Head of Recruitment, Pete Johnson, who has worked very closely with our company over the past few years and has travelled with us to Australia and Bermuda in the search of talent, was at our trial last Friday and spotted the big man (you couldn't miss him) and invited him in for a trial right away.
His brother, Gary, manages the first team and was impressed with what he saw from Kalambay: "The boy has good ability but his fitness is way off at the minute," Johnson said. "We've agreed to keep him around for another week or so to see how he does.
"We want to see a bit more of him and understand more of his football ability and his willingness to work hard for the cause."
He added: "He clearly has a bit about him, but we have to know a lot more before we can make a big decision on whether to take him or not."
Kalambay, who was just one of 126 players who were scouted in August, will remain on trial with the League 2 side for the foreseeable before a decision is made about his future.
