Junior Training with Premier League Giants Manchester City
Junior Akwonta, 12, has been training with Manchester City after the Premier League giants spotted him at our trial in August.
The towering defensive midfielder, who can also play at centre back, put in an impressive performance at Stockport Sports Village earlier this year and caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, eventually opting for City and rejecting the offer of a six-week-trial from rivals Manchester United.
Steve, Junior's Guardian, said: "Things have been going well with Man City, he's training twice a week with the shadow squad and they've said that they like him.
"He's played in a couple of games, one against West Ham, and has done well in both of them playing in central defensive midfield."
He added: "We will just keep training and playing and see what happens in the next few weeks, hopefully he will be able to sign something soon."
Before attending the UK Football Trials event in Manchester, Junior spent 8 months at Unsigned Football Academy, training and playing regularly under the guidance of Daren Abagun, who also scouts at our trials.
"Junior had a fantastic few months at our academy from November last year up until recently," said Daren, "He's got so much pace and power for a 12-year-old that a lot of the players he plays against just can't handle him.
"He's obviously not the finished product yet, technically he's still got work to do but if he can continue to improve on what he demonstrated at our academy then he's got a great chance."
We will continue to monitor the progress of Junior and bring you more news as it happens.
