Winger Scouted in April on Trial with Derby County
11-year-old winger Dru Turner will be trialling with Derby County tonight after being scouted at a UK Football Trials Birmingham event earlier this month.
Dru, who can play on the right side of midfield or as a full-back, has been to two of our events in the last year and has attracted attention on both occasions.
Last year Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra took his details, and although nothing materialised from their interest, it was incentive enough to come back and try again – it seems he has got his reward.
The youngster is set to join up with Derby County at the training ground tonight where he will be assessed and a further decision will be made on his future.
“He is ecstatic and just wants to get in and start playing so he can make the team,” said his Mum, Shelley.
She added: “He loved the UK Football Trials event, the training was great and the coaches were of a high quality.
“I think the thing he likes about it the most is that there’s no pressure on the kids, you wouldn’t know it’s a trial, they’re all just enjoying themselves – the trials are run really well.”
Dru, who is known as “Rapid Boy” by his teammates, recently scooped the Golden Boot award two season running for his local side Brandhall Colts.
Although there will no doubt be some degree of pressure on him when he take to the pitch at Derby, this wont be the first time Dru has tasted life at a pro club.
He is currently at West Brom’s Development Centre and trains regularly with the Premier League outfit, which should help settle the nerves and give him every chance of impressing tonight.
We wish Dru and his family good luck with his football and bring you updates as we get them. Congratulations from all the team here at UK Football Trials on a great football trial performance!
