The 14-year-old - who can operate either as a central-midfielder or on the wing - received interest from clubs ranging from the Premier League through to League Two.

Liam attended his trial with the blues on Sunday, 11th June and is now waiting to find out the club’s decision before deciding on his next move, with offers of trials from other clubs already on the table.

“There was around 60 kids at the Shrewsbury trial and they had four groups who were rotating in matches,” explained Liam’s mum, Dawn.

“They said they were now going to select 26 players to come back for another session in a week before making their final decisions, so we’ll wait to hear from them.”

Dawn added: “But this is the kind of challenge he’s been after – he felt like he needed a bit of a test and that’s why we came to UK Football Trials.

“It was actually for his birthday present and he got the call to say he’d been scouted two days after his birthday so he was made up.”

The trial on 1st June wasn’t Liam’s first with UK Football Trials.

He came to an event last year and has seen a dramatic improvement in his graded feedback from then to now, something Dawn attributes to his advice form the coaches and the work Liam has put in over the last year.

She said: “He took on board everything the coaches told him last year; he’s been eating healthier foods, training harder for longer and it’s paid off.

“Last year he got a few C’s and C+’s and this year he’s got mainly B+’s and six clubs have taken his details, so it’s paid off. He just has a great attitude, he’s convinced he’s going to be a footballer.”

Dawn continued: “Liam plays every day, he’s always got a ball stuck to his foot or is watching YouTube videos and copying them outside.

“For him it was the right choice to come to UK Football Trials, he loves it and wants to do the five day camp next, but we’ll see what happens with Shrewsbury and the rest of the interest first.”

Liam also has offers of a trial from Rochdale FC and a club in League Two looks set to follow up their interest with an offer soon.
