Spotted last summer during his first UK Football Trials event, Ethan was scouted by Colchester FC as an Under-11 player.

On the field, Ethan’s technical and athletic strength, especially as an attacking midfielder, were on display throughout the event. But coaches and scouts were also impressed with his positive attitude and how hard he worked on the day, encouraging and leading his team.

Shortly after the trial, Colchester contacted Ethan's family to invite him down to the club's training ground for a trial.

His dad, David, was impressed with the UK Football Trials setup and the opportunities it presented to his son: "The whole set-up was professionally-run and gave the boys a real chance to showcase their abilities. The staff and coaches were great - really welcoming."

Since then, Ethan’s enhanced confidence has seen him contribute to a series of good performances by his school’s A-team, to such a level that he was selected for a high performance programme for sportsmen. Outside school, he plays with a successful league team, Muswell Hill FC. He also keeps up his fitness levels by regularly competing in London-wide, regional and county athletics, cross-country and swimming events.

Ethan practises his football keenly every day and is always working on ways to up his game.

Unfortunately, Ethan was unable to accept to invitation to go to Colchester because he lives outside the maximum distance allowed.

"The head coach from Colchester FC was very encouraging and understanding," explained David.

"He said that if we ever moved closer, then the offer for Ethan remained open."
