A UK Football Trials player has spoken of his excitement at his invitation to train with Swansea City Development for a six-week period. 11-year-old Liam Cressey, who plays as a central defender, impressed his coach at the football trial in Swansea this summer enough to earn a trial with the Premier League club, where he started last Wednesday.

Standing at 5ft and weighing around 5 and a half stone, Liam captains his club side Cosheston Strikers and is also a key figure in his school side, having been described as “dependable at the back”. The traits that stood out for our coaches and scouts on the day were his pace, attitude and strength in the tackle. Another key attribute that the coach noted was his ability to read to game so well for someone of such a young age.

Speaking about Liam’s trial with Swansea, his mother, Sam, said: “Liam is excited about his upcoming trial with Swansea and his attendances at UK Football Trials have helped immensely in preparing Liam for this. “Liam has attended a few trials with UK Football Trials and has enjoyed every one. The player feedback which is given at the end of the trial has been very useful and has helped Liam to focus on the areas of his game which needed improvement. His feedback scores have improved more with each trial.
