Striker, 20, Signs for Semi-Pro Club After Attending UKFT Camp

Striker Scott Walsh has signed for semi-pro club AFC Darwen after attending our football camp in August.

The 20-year-old impressed throughout the five days at Ardingly College and was one of several players to be scouted from the camp.

We caught up with Scott a few weeks after he left the football camp and he spoke to us about what happened next.

Scott said: “At the camp there were some scouts watching us all week and one of them had links to Darwen.

“At the end of the event he asked me down for a week long trial, including some training and a cup game where I got 20 minutes in centre-midfield.

“They called me after the trial and offered me a contract, so in a week I’d gone from nowhere to being a semi-pro footballer and it wouldn’t have been possible without UK Football Trials and the camp – a lot of it was based on developing character.”

Born in England, Scott moved to California at just five years old, which is where he stayed until this summer, when he returned to the UK to pursue his football dream.

“I was playing for my university in California but wanted to try and make it as a footballer here,” Scott explained.

“Darwen is a good level – the biggest difference compared to America is now I’m playing against men and England is physically demanding.

“I was a bit nervous on my first session with the first team but they made me feel really welcome straight away.”

Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Scott on his contract at AFC Darwen and wish him all the best with his football going forward.
