Maclean Simpson, Aged 17, Trial with Woking
Simpson, originally for Australia, moved over to the UK earlier this year in the hope of finding a club in England after finding his opportunities limited at home. He attended trials in Manchester, Birmingham and Scotland before finally getting spotted at his final trial of the Summer in Plymouth.
During the Plymouth trial, Simpson scored a first-half hat-trick for his side. At half-time the coach swapped him on to the other team where he scored a further 2 goals. The coach said: "The momentum of the game completely swung when he swapped teams. Any player who can have that affect on a game is worth a look at." Speaking about his trial with Woking, Simpson said: "I spent a week in with the academy, mainly with the u21's. The training and the standard was good, I felt comfortable playing with the level of player there so it's done me good to see what level I'm at and I know that I can cope in that environment." He added: "My trial is over now so until I hear anything I'm just keeping myself fit. I'm going for a 10km run every day and have got a PT to work on my core strength at the gym with me. Ideally I can get in with a semi-pro club this season and work my way up from there."
