Romedi Llapi, Aged 13, Training with Manchester City
UK Football Trials are delighted to announce that Manchester City have taken one of our players in for a six-week training programme with the academy. Romedi Llapi, 13, flew over from Canada this August especially to attend our football trials and followed our team all over the country.
The defensive midfielder, who was ranked in the top 12 from 5,000 children in Toronto, received interest from 5 clubs but has decided on a six week programme with Manchester City, which he started today. A family member said: "I was in Canada and monitored UK Football Trials for a year and was really impressed with what I saw. We came over just for the football trials and did London, Birmingham and Manchester which were all fantastic. It was great for Romedi that he did a few football trials, he was able to express himself more and get seen by different coaches and scouts." So why was Romedi scouted by so many clubs? It was the combination of an excellent attitude, power and pace, with an extremely powerful shot that really caught the eye of the scouts and coaches. He is physically strong with good core strength and he proved to be an intelligent footballer taking on board whatever the coaches asked of him.
When not training with City, Romedi is doing 1v1 sessions with UK Football Trials coach John Fenton, a Lead Man City Academy Coach, as well as practising twice a week with amateur clubs and going for runs every day by himself. "He’s really happy, he can’t believe it, it’s honestly a dream come true for him. We both appreciate so much what UK Football Trials have done. I’d 100% recommend this programme to other players – they’ve provided us with everything we wanted."
