Jaydon Thorbourne – Aged 18 – Trial with Woking FC

Former Arsenal academy prospect Jaydon Thorbourne is currently on trial with National League side Woking FC, as he aims to “take inspiration from Jamie Vardy.”

Jaydon played for Senrab FC as a youngster, the same club that the likes of John Terry, Ledley King and Bobby Zamora all graduated from, before moving on to Fulham to continue his fledgling football career.

Jaydon, who is just 18 and plays as a left full-back, was picked up by Arsenal and spent four years with Arsenal’s academy and regularly trained with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Thierry Henry. Speaking about his Arsenal days, Jaydon said how fantastic it was to be mixing with his heroes. He also said that Arsene Wegner was brilliant with all the young players, always stopping to talk and ask them how they were getting on.

After being released from Arsenal who felt he would have limited opportunities with Kieron Gibbs and Nacho Monreal at the club, Jaydon had a spell at Crystal Palace, which included u21’s appearances.

After finding himself stuck as a free agent and lacking options, Jaydon approached UK Football Trials for a second chance and the opportunity to get back into the game.

“I’ve been to two UK Football Trials this year and I’m just really grateful for the opportunity, I believe everyone deserves a second chance,” said Jaydon.

“I’m really focused on hopefully getting some 1st team football under my belt and getting a contract with Woking. Players like me have to take inspiration from the likes of Jamie Vardy and I really think that Woking could be the club to kick-start my career.”

He added: “James Price - my Intermediary from 1 Football Agency and UK Football Trials – has been great for me and I’m happy to be working with him and the rest of the team. UK Football Trials have a great setup, the coaching is bang on and there are a lot of talented players there who like me just need a chance. The standard of coaching was similar to what I experienced at Palace and it really is a great platform for players with all the scouts watching.”

Agent James Price said, “Jaydon had a set back at Palace which has meant he’s had to start again – virtually every successful player has a setback at some stage and he’s taken it in his stride and come back stronger. We are really hoping he does well and is able to relaunch his career at Woking and do a great job for them. A lot of people don’t realise how high a standard the National league; it’s hard, physical men’s football and if he can break into the team it will be fantastic."
