Midfielder Scouted on Second Time After Unsuccessful First Trial

14-year-old forward Harry Wheat has been invited to stay at the Academy of Excellence at Guiseley AFC, who play in the Conference Premier.

Harry, who plays as a number ten, actually attended two of our trials in Leeds last year and wasn’t scouted by anyone during his first attempt in May.

However after receiving some good grades and feedback from the first trial, he took it upon himself to book again and just twelve weeks later he received a call from us telling him he had been scouted.

“It’s going great at Guiseley at the moment, he’s training twice a week and playing games on a Saturday,” said his Mum, Jessica.

“He went in for his first session in November and then last week they said they’d like him to stay on, so obviously that mean’s he’s doing well.”

Harry, who stands at 5 foot 10”, is juggling his time at Guiseley with playing for Panal Sports Panthers, his local Sunday League side – and Jessica says his time with the Conference club is helping his Sunday side, too, although the difference is “massive.”

“You can tell the difference from Sunday League to the level he’s playing now, it’s massive,” explained Jessica, “He’s coming back shattered and the sessions are harder and more physical but we’ve seen a massive improvement in him since he’s been there.

“I think that all of this is helping him perform better for his local team too, he’s so loud on the pitch and is always helping his team mates out, that’s one of his biggest strengths, being a team player and a likeable character.”

Despite being unsuccessful on his first attempt, Harry’s attitude is a prime example of a player taking on board the coaches advice, working hard to improve and coming back a better player and getting scouted.

Jessica said: “Harry was buzzing after the UK Football Trial, he loved it.

“It’s been one of the best experiences of his life and we have to say thanks for everything you’ve done for him to help get him on this stepping stone.”

Harry has so far featured in games against teams such as Chester and Rochdale and a decision will be made on his long-term future over the next few months.
