Bath City Take Midfielder on Trial for Pre-Season
16-year-old midfielder George Shewring has spent pre-season with Conference South side Bath City.
The talented playmaker, who operates in the middle of the park, has attended six of our trials in his attempts of making it as a professional footballer, and he appears to have taken his first step on the ladder.
At our event in Cardiff earlier this year he caught the attention of one of the coaches, who was also working as a scout, after an impressive performance in the trial match.
His club, Bath City, approached George shortly after and invited him in for a trial with the academy at the end of April.
After the trial, George was invited to join the club’s academy for pre-season, so "things seem to be going well at the moment", said his dad, Simon.
So far in 2017/18 George has featured for the u18’s in friendlies against Forest Green Rovers and Aldershot Town, while he gave a committed performance in the club’s 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers.
George added: “It’s been a tough pre-season but it’s been great, we’ve trained for 17 hours this week and my fitness has come on loads already.
“I’m spending about three or four days a week at the academy so it’s pretty full on but I’m loving it with the club, the players are all a really good standard and the coach is great.”
In 2015 George spent a year with Newport County’s Academy and he was also scouted by Bristol City last season after they saw him at our trials, but this chance with Bath City offers George his first real taste of what could be to come and he describes it as his “biggest achievement to date.”
George will continue training with Bath for the foreseeable and we will bring you an update on his future as we get one.
