Australian playmaker Alex Stelco has flown to England for a trial with Sheffield United, after he was scouted from our event in Melbourne in January.

UK Football Trials Head Scout Mark Jaycocks was in Australia to see Alex, 12, in action and was so impressed that he made the arrangements for the youngster and his family to fly to the UK for a trial with Sheffield Utd.

It presents an exciting opportunity for both parties, with the Championship club seemingly keen to wrap up what would be a coup for their academy.

Considering Alex and his family recently turned down the offer to spend a year with Real Madrid in Spain, there will no doubt be a fight to secure his signature.

“Alex’s attitude was second to none,” revealed Mark.

“You can clearly see that he prepares himself for games and technically he’s very good – he reads games very well.

He added: “I watched him in training and games over two days and he took to the sessions really well.

“In my opinion he is good enough for academy football, however, he will need to toughen up for the demands of English football but technically he is of the ability required,” said Mark.

“Sheffield United liked him and wouldn’t have any hesitation in seeing him again – his family are moving to the UK this Summer and I will also be arranging for him to train with a Premier League club.”
