Kalvin on Trial for League Two First Team & Played Against West Brom
French winger Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala is currently on trial with Cheltenham Town’s First Team in League Two.
The explosive forward was spotted at our trial in West London in May when he put in a dominant performance and controlled the tempo of the game.
Kalvin, who was playing in Serie D last season (the Italian fourth division) was immediately invited for a trial at Cheltenham and shortly after returning home to France, he was back in the UK.
“He’s been in and done really well,” said Cheltenham Town’s Head of Recruitment Pete Johnson.
“Last week he played against West Brom and was coming up against the likes of Rondon and England Internationals in Gareth Barry and Jay Rodriguez. We lost 3-1 but he was decent.”
Pete added: “Yesterday was his best day so far, we did some shooting and crossing and expected him to maybe struggle compared to pro players but he excelled – our ‘keeper even asked us where he was from so that’s a good sign.”
“We’ve got a big game coming up which is where we’ll decide if we keep him but he’s doing as well as he can.”
Kalvin has not had any previous trials in England and even in France he was only playing for local teams, as his agent Max explained.
“This is his first trial in England – the first time we came to UK Football Trials the story started.
“I went to Cheltenham with Kalvin and it was very good, he did well and we will find out their decision soon.
“He’s enjoying it very much, he likes it at Cheltenham and he thinks it’s a very good opportunity for him to start his career in England."
We would like to congratulate Kalvin on getting this far and will report on his future as it develops.
