Premier League Trial For Goalkeeper Scouted By AFC Bournemouth
Premier League high-flyers AFC Bournemouth have taken goalkeeper Oskar Lockyer on trial after scouting him from our events in August.
Oskar, 15, attended our trials in West London, Birmingham and Manchester in August this year and has subsequently had invitations to train with both Bournemouth and Accrington Stanley.
Barry, Oskar’s dad, explained what happened after they came to the UK Football Trial events in the summer.
“Oskar got invited into Accrington Stanley the following day after the trial, so he went down for some training there and played in a game too,” said Barry.
“Unfortunately by the end of the week it turned out they didn’t need a new ‘keeper but it was still a good experience for him to get some training at a pro club.”
“We then heard from Birmingham City, Derby, Fleetwood and of course Bournemouth, where he went for a one day trial.
“It went really well – it was at the club’s training ground and he did some work with the other goalkeepers there, but in the end the distance was the issue.”
Barry continued: “We just live so far away that they would have had to sign him as a scholar which wasn’t possible in the end, so we had to let that one go but again it was brilliant for him to get some training at a Premier League Academy.”
For someone so young, Oskar has already amassed a great deal of pro club experience.
His list of previous trials includes the likes of Charlton Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur, while he’s spent the last year with semi-pro outfit Hastings, where he continues to play regularly.
Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Oskar on his recent trials and wish him good luck with his career going forward.
