Zac Smith, Aged 14, Signed by Gillingham FC
In May this year we brought you the news that Zachary Smith, 14, was set for a trial with pro club Gillingham, after he was spotted at our trials last Easter. Now, we are delighted to announce that he is set to sign a one year contract with the club, playing for both the u15's and the u16's for the 2015/16 season.
Zac is a young centre back who displayed brilliant strength and pace on his trial and impressed a number of scouts, receiving interest from two other clubs as well as Gillingham. His first trial game for Gillingham was against MK Dons back in May. After attending two sessions with Gillingham in May, the season ended soon after. Zac had to keep himself fit in the summer and returned to the academy in July for pre-season. Despite interest from other clubs in recent months, Gillingham moved fast to offer Zac a one-year-contract which he was delighted to sign.
Mother, Kayleigh, said: "He loves it at Gillingham and felt like one of the boys straight away, he's settled in really well. Zac will be training twice a week at the academy and playing matches at the weekend, still fitting school in as normal and he really can't wait to get started."
