England International Goalkeeper Tom Heaton has a new teammate in the form of 18-year-old George McMahon, who attended our trials in June last year.

The young shot-stopper, who made his debut cap for the Republic of Ireland youth team last season, has signed a professional contract with Burnley Football Club.

George’s trial with the Premier League club was already well underway when he attended the UK Football Trials event in West London, but he was there to provide himself with a backup plan should the trial at Burnley be unsuccessful.

And while he did receive interest from our event, fortunately for George, Burnley confirmed their interest with the offer of a professional contract.

George’s agent, Gary, said: “There was some interest in him from the UK Football Trials, but Burnley offered him the contract so of course he was delighted.

“He’s got a good chance of doing well and potentially a very good career in front of him.”

George is set to see out the remainder of the season in the sixth tier of English football when he joins up with Ashton United on loan later this week, where he will look to get some first-team minutes under his belt in the National League North.

Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate George on securing his first professional contract at Burnley FC and wish him all the best for his football career moving forward.
